Based in the Glasgow area, Kenny Pettigrew is available to travel up to an hour from the city for weddings, funerals, and special occasions. With decades of experience in both performance and pipe-making, Kenny brings exceptional skill, tradition, and professionalism to every engagement.
Kenny began learning the bagpipes at the age of 11, taught by his father, James Pettigrew. He also attended the College of Piping in Glasgow, where he received instruction from Angus MacLellan, the Pipe Sergeant of the renowned Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.
In the 1980s, Kenny played with the Bishopbriggs Pipe Band, a Grade 2 band at the time. He later joined the Glasgow Skye Pipe Band in Grade 1, playing with them from 1989 to 1990 before moving to the Boghall & Bathgate Pipe Band, where he remained until the end of the 1995 season. During his time with Boghall & Bathgate, the band achieved significant success, including winning the Scottish and Cowal Championships in 1994 and securing second place at the World Pipe Band Championships that same year.
Kenny has also performed with the Scottish Fire Service Pipe Band and more recently with Uddingston Pipe Band in Grade 2. He currently serves as Pipe Sergeant of Williamwood Pipe Band in Grade 4A, where he plays a key role in developing the band and teaching young pipers who aspire to compete.
In addition to his playing career, Kenny is a skilled bagpipe maker by trade. Taught by his father—who worked for RG Hardie for 26 years—Kenny has worked with Kintail, MacLeod Highland Supplies, K Pettigrew Bagpipes, and was instrumental in setting up Wallace Bagpipes. Together with his father, he also crafted bagpipes for the blockbuster film Braveheart.
Now retired from full-time work, Kenny is able to dedicate more time to piping and is available for private tuition as well as performances at a wide range of events.
