Chic is a proud former piper with the world-renowned Black Watch, 1st Battalion Royal Highland Regiment of Scotland.
With over 46 years of experience as a bagpipe player, Chic has enjoyed a remarkable and varied piping career. He joined the Black Watch in 1972 and studied under Pipe Major James Anderson, quickly progressing to the role of trainer for all Battalion Pipers. He later advanced his skills at Edinburgh Castle under the guidance of Captain Andrew Pitkeathly and Pipe Major Angus Macdonald of the Scots Guards.
Chic won the Battalion Senior Pipers Competition and was honoured to receive his medal and trophies from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother—an unforgettable moment of pride.
After leaving the Black Watch in 1984, Chic founded The Harwich and District Pipe and Drums. Under his leadership, the band joined the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) and competed nationally and internationally, achieving placement in the World Pipe Band Championships and being invited to perform at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
His piping journey continued with roles in the Harrods Pipe Band and as Pipe Major at HM Tower of London, where he received the Constable’s Commendation for valuable and meritorious service.
In 2008, Chic was based in Qatar, serving as Senior Piping Instructor to the Qatar Military Music School.
His career has taken him around the world to perform at prestigious regimental events. His television appearances include Good Morning Britain, The Tracey Ullman Show, Loose Women, and the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall with the Band of The Household Division.
Chic is also passionate about passing on his knowledge. He teaches piping to those wishing to learn this ancient and noble art, and regularly gives guest talks to groups such as the Women's Institute and Rotary Club.
Chic is available to perform at a wide range of events, bringing the unmistakable magic and majesty of the bagpipes to audiences across the UK and beyond.
