Laura is a highly experienced and respected bagpiper based in York. She is the Pipe Major of the City of York Pipe Band, a role she has proudly held for many years, leading the pipes and drums with skill, dedication, and passion.
In addition to her work with the band, Laura is a full-time solo piper, performing at weddings, funerals, birthday parties, care homes, and a wide variety of events across all corners of Yorkshire – north, south, east, and west. Her performances are known for their emotional impact, creating memorable and meaningful moments for all who hear her play.
Laura began learning the bagpipes at the age of just seven, and over the past 32 years, piping has become not only her profession but her lifelong passion. From an early age, she competed and performed at events around the world, developing a deep connection to the music and its traditions.
Her career has also led to some truly remarkable opportunities – she has played on stage with Rod Stewart, performed for Sir Richard Branson, and opened a show in Barbados for Eddi Reader. These highlights reflect the incredible journeys the bagpipes have taken her on, and she remains deeply grateful for the experiences and people she continues to encounter through her music.
For Laura, being a piper is more than just a job – it’s a calling. She takes great joy in bringing something unique and heartfelt to every occasion and feels privileged to share the sound of the pipes with so many.
